On August 29, Jolie, 49, was seen on the red carpet interacting with Pasqualino Esposito, an Italian writer with osteogenesis imperfecta, a condition causing bones to break easily. Fans captured the moment as Jolie knelt to speak with Esposito, who was on a portable medical bed.
Esposito expressed his gratitude in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying, “She’s a person with a very big heart. She’s fantastic.” Jolie’s gesture was particularly moving given Esposito’s condition, which requires special medical attention.

Jolie was at the festival to promote her new film, Maria, where she stars as the iconic opera singer Maria Callas. The film received a standing ovation at its premiere. During a press conference, Jolie discussed her connection to Callas, noting,
“There’s a lot I won’t say in this room that you probably know and assume. I related to the part of her that is extremely soft and didn’t have room in the world to be as soft as she truly was and as emotionally open as she truly was. I think I share her vulnerability more than anything.”

Maria is a biographical drama directed by Pablo LarraÃn, with Jolie in the lead role, alongside Valeria Golino as Callas’s sister Yakinthi and Haluk Bilginer as Aristotle Onassis. Jolie emphasized her dedication to honoring Callas’s legacy, stating, “I take very seriously the responsibility to Maria's life and legacy. I will give all I can to meet the challenge.”

She also spoke highly of director Pablo LarraÃn, saying, “To be allowed the chance to tell more of Maria's story with him, and with a script by Steven Knight, is a dream.” Jolie underwent extensive vocal training with coach Eric Vetro to prepare for the role.
Reflecting on her nervousness about singing on screen, Jolie shared, “My first time singing I remember being so nervous. My sons were there and they helped lock the door so that nobody else was coming in, and I was shaky. I was frightened.” She appreciated LarraÃn’s approach, saying, “Pablo, in his decency, started me in a small room and ended me in [the Paris opera house] La Scala. So he gave me time to grow.”
The film aims to recreate Callas’s 1958 Paris gala performance, showcasing Jolie’s commitment to delivering an authentic portrayal of the legendary singer.
