According to the police, Kohli was "seriously" assaulted by three girls and two boys, aged between 12 and 14, who allegedly kicked him in the neck and back. The children fled the scene before emergency services could arrive. Kohli was found lying in the park, in severe pain, and was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Leicestershire Police have arrested the five children on suspicion of murder. The arrested suspects include a 14-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl, two 12-year-old girls, and a 12-year-old boy. The police are currently interviewing the suspects to gather more information about the attack.
Kohli, a retired factory owner, was known in his community as a gentle and friendly man. He had lived in the neighborhood for around 35 years and was well-liked by his neighbors.

One neighbor, Frank Owen, mentioned that the area is usually quiet, but there had been some recent incidents involving young people causing trouble. Another neighbor, Deep Singh Kalia, who knew Kohli well, described him as a loving man who adored his dog and his family.
Residents also reported that Kohli had been harassed by teenagers in the past, with incidents of stones being thrown at him. Despite these troubling encounters, Kohli continued to live peacefully in the community. On the day of the attack, Kohli’s daughter found him lying under a tree in the park, unable to move his legs after being violently pushed and kicked.
Leicestershire Police have launched a murder investigation and are appealing for witnesses who were in the park or surrounding area at the time of the attack. The police have also referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to Kohli's previous interactions with law enforcement. Detective Inspector Emma Matts emphasized that the investigation is progressing rapidly, with officers working hard to establish the details of the incident.
Local authorities have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community and encourage anyone with information to come forward. The police are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who might have witnessed the group of children in the park or noticed any suspicious activity in the area.
Kohli's death has deeply affected his family and the local community, leaving them in shock and mourning. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are determined to bring justice to Kohli and his grieving family.
