Fans compared Fergie's heavily criticized performance at the 2018 NBA All-Star game. The criticism worsened after Andress admitted on social media that she was drunk during the performance.
The public response to her performance was swift and harsh, starting a wave of reactions online. Singer Julia Michaels expressed her support on Andress’ Instagram post, stating, “Love you girl. I’m sorry you’re going through this And I’m sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx.” Similarly, country singer Carly Pearce offered her encouragement, writing, “I’m sending you love, Ingrid. Being this open takes a lot. You’ve got this. Hang in there.”
Later Ingrid Andress shared this post on Instagram. Admitting she was indeed drunk while performing the national anthem.
With her singing career, including four Grammy nominations and a chart-topping duet with Sam Hunt, Andress’s performance left many questioning what went wrong. The performance, held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, started traditionally but quickly went wrong, with Andress missing several notes. The players' visible reactions during the broadcast, notably Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm’s attempt to stifle a smile, highlighted the discomfort.

Despite this setback, Andress has had a notable career in country music. Originally from Michigan and raised in Colorado, she debuted with her album "Lady Like" in March 2020 and followed up with "Good Person" in 2022. Her hits “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking” with Sam Hunt made significant impacts on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her career accomplishments, include Grammy nominations for Best New Artist, Best Country Song, and Best Country Album, along with her nomination for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Wishful Drinking,”. Fans and commentators familiar with her usual performances expressed their confusion and disappointment, with one stating, “I’ve seen her live several times and she’s always been great! I have no idea what on earth happened there.”
The video of the performance, initially uploaded by ESPN, has since been made private.
